The renascent appreciation for craft that’s sweeping the globe finds a new and exciting platform in Valore Artigiano. This Veneto-based project—guided by design star Martino Gamper—champions regional craft production by pairing international designers with traditional artisans to develop beautiful and useful handmade objects for the home. The Chiocciolina Notte—named for, depending on whom you ask, the Italian word for the “@” symbol or for “snail”—arose from a collaboration between Austrian-based design studio MN*LS and Italian glassworks Myver. The design debuted in April in From-To, Gamper’s buzz-worthy exhibition of Valore Artigiano objects in Milan. This ultra simple, limited-edition design features a clear, hand-blown borosilicate glass orb supporting a copper-toned lightbulb socket and showcases the clean yet spirited aesthetic shared by both MN*LS and Myver. Margarita Navarro and Ludwig Slezak are the design talents behind MN*LS. Navarro was born in Colombia and studied design in Madrid. After working in Spain and the US, she moved to Milan for her postgraduate studies at Domus Academy. Slezak was born in Austria, studied in Los Angeles, and graduated from Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. After several years collaborating with various design and architectural studios, they both ended up in Treviso. There, in 2008, they founded their studio MN*LS, with projects in sports apparel, interiors, products, and graphics. They opened a studio in Vienna in 2010. Chiocciolina Light (Small) and Chiocciolina Light (Large) are also available.
